Each pair is made from the same 12oz washed canvas as our aprons, with an embroidered Kombi on one and an Escargot on the other, plus a hanging loop to keep them close to the stove.

Behind the design

Our Iconic Collection pot holders come in pairs, so you get two vans to dream about.

The Kombi is Volkswagen's much-loved van from Germany. Its name is short for Kombinationskraftwagen, or "combination vehicle", because it could carry people or goods. In 1951, Westfalia turned one into a camper for a British officer who wanted a bed and a desk in his van.

The Escargot was built by French coachbuilder Georges Lemarié. With its curves and pointed tail, it looked just like a snail's shell, and Mrs Lemarié chose the colours, cushions and curtains.

We chose pale blue for this pair to bring to mind clear alpine skies and the sparkling lakes of the Swiss Alps.

Are they heat resistant?

Yes, the padded canvas protects your hands from hot pots, pans and camp ovens. Always keep them dry when you use them, because damp fabric lets heat through quickly.
How do I wash them?

Give them a cold gentle wash, or simply wipe them clean.
Do they match the aprons?

Most of our pairs have matching embroidered aprons, and you’ll find the links in All the details. Together they make a great set for the van kitchen.
How many do I get?

How do I use the hand pocket?
